Children’s Rights Education

We know we cannot change the world alone.

That’s why we provide training to duty-bearers, including parents, teachers, police, government officials, social workers and members of the tourism industry. By building the capacity of duty-bearers we know that they can do more to fulfill their duties to children.

Our training workshops are run through our newest social enterprise, Children’s Rights Institute.

UNCRC and the Filipino Child

In this workshop participants get a crash course in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and how it translates into law and practice in the Philippines.

Children’s Rights Programming

Participants get information and tools to enable them to plan and run programs that integrate children’s rights and achieve effective and sustainable results for children.

Family & Alternative Care

This training focuses on the UN Guidelines on Alternative and Family Care and helping participants understand how these can be integrated into alternative care programs.

Child Protection Policy Development

This course is designed to help organizations to understand the importance of child safeguarding policies, practices and processes and to establish or review their own child protection policies.

Gender Equality for Children & Youth

Participants are given opportunities to learn about gender, stereotypes, bias and discrimination and increase understanding about how to improve gender equality for children and youth.

ChildSafe Tourism

This training is designed to help members of the tourism industry to be able to recognize risks to children and to be more proactive in keeping children safe in tourism.

Rights-Based Approaches for Children in Street Situations

In this workshop participants will take a deep dive into the issues affecting children in street situations and UN General Comment 21. The training will help develop skills and knowledge about how to improve programming to better protect and fulfill the rights of children in street situations.

WITH children we aim to make the world better FOR children

Children’s Rights Advocacy & Research

We recognize that we are in a privileged position to enable children and youth to share their voices and perspectives.

Bahay Tuluyan actively engages in various networks and activities aimed at improving the policy and legislative framework for children. We also participate in research projects aimed at increasing knowledge and understanding about issues affecting children and youth.

Research

Understanding children’s situations is an important part of providing evidence-based solutions.

Our study, ‘Sagip or Huli? Rescue of Street Children in Caloocan, Manila, Pasay and Quezon Cities’, that was launched in 2009, helped improve national policies for children in street situations.

We are open to partnering with research projects that have been approved by a recognized Ethics Research Board. Each project is assessed on its merits.

Advocacy

Our work to help improve the systems and laws that protect children takes various forms.

We are a proud member of the Children’s Rights Network that actively pursues legislative reform for children. We also participate in various other networks promoting the rights of children.

As the Co-Chair of the Sub-Committee for the Protection and Welfare of Children in Street Situations we led the development of the first national strategic plan for children in street situations.

We also organize our own advocacy events such as Congresses for Children in Street Situations and our annual KidsView advocacy tour in Australia.

Children’s Rights Reporting

As a signatory to the UNCRC, the Philippines reports to the Committee on the Rights of the Child as to its progress towards fulfilling children’s rights.

Bahay Tuluyan participates in this reporting process, as a civil society organization. As part of the Civil Society Coalition for UNCRC we provide supplementary reports to the Committee.

During the most recent cycle of reporting Bahay Tuluyan also submitted its own thematic report, on children in street situations in the Philippines. We also enabled children, through our Street Children’s Congress, to directly participate in the reporting process.
